Singers Roj Moktan and Yogita Moktan have just come back after a hugely successful performance dubbed the “Loshar Sanskritk Sanjh 2844” organized by the Nepali Tamang Society, Doha, Qatar. Both were overwhelmed with the response at the event, which was held at the premises of Aamir Movie Theater on January 25th which also included performances by other Nepali artists currently living in Doha. Around twenty five hundred Nepalese, mostly from the Tamang community, danced to the tunes of Roj Moktan who looked at ease belting out his popular numbers such as ‘Kalkatte Kangio’, ‘Rato Rato Gala,’ ‘Helambu Ko Bazaar’ as well as other Tamang songs. Yogita too grabbed a major share of the limelight with her performances. The crowd thronged to the venue in large numbers and much beyond its capacity whereby the organizers had to turn back nearly a thousand of them assuring them that there would be another performance by the duo the next day. Nepalese living in Doha also presented traditional Nepali and Tamang cultural dances and from reports received by us state that the whole atmosphere was like ‘home away from home’.

Roj Moktan, who flew to Doha on 23rd January, didn’t fail to mention that apart from the musical event, he and Yogita also had some fun time traveling and visiting various places in Qatar and a little bit of shopping as well. Roj and Yogita were also honored by the Doha Ramechap Samparka Manch with an award and ‘Tamra Patra’ for contributing to the Nepali music industry while they were in Doha. With the festive celebrations of Loshar in its full swing, artists singing in the Tamang language are at their busiest best with numerous programs lined up.
